Julius Eastman — Unjust Malaise (CD3): Κριτικές
Milestone
One of most controversial titles Eastman gave to his scores, "Crazy Nigger" was performed at "The Kitchen" in New York ("Center for video, music and dance" where previously both Steve Reich and Philip Glass, among others, performed their new music in the late '60) on February 8 and 9 1980 by Julius Eastman, Joseph Kubera and Jeffrey Lohn all at the piano, assisted by a large number of other musicians. It is a clear example of the so called maximalism of a musician considered a minimalist, with phrases and structures that get repeated and amplified by superposition. In the second track you can listen to Julius Eastman himself introducing his performance music at Northwestern University, January 16 1980. A milestone in modern music forgot for years.
