Great Group Vocals
Lots of hits on this Coed Singles collection of The Duprees best performances. Though they existed during the era of doo-wop, they really were much more a big band vocal group. With Joey Vann in the lead, they had great hits like You Belong to Me, Have You Heard, and My Own True Love among others. Big band quality productions were their trademark, and they took full advantage of the studio musicians who back them up. The arrangements compliment their vocal range perfectly, and while no one will ever confuse them with hard core do-wop, along with the The Skyliners they were a bridge between teen pop and big band. Skip their later sides cut for Columbia; they just don't have the feeling that these tunes do.
