This hard to find Johnny Smith LP is really an Art Van Damme album with Smith as the guest artist. It's very tough to find, and this download is clearly from an old LP transfer. There is a bit of static scratching throughout the download, most often in between tracks. The session is a very calm affair (as most Johnny Smith sessions were), and the song selection is only marginally inventive. How many versions of JS doing 'Spring is Here' does one really need, especially if there's nothing unique here. Van Damme is considered the master of the jazz accordion, but this is not one of his better outings. If you're a Johnny Smith completist, you might want this, but for the rest of us, there's nothing here to warrant a purchase.
