The title track is very good harking back to "Harvest" era melodies and with LeBlanc's vocals sounding as good as those on his debut "Pauper's Field". Other tracks show a more soulful side to his music particularly the gently rolling "I'm Moving On" which recalls the music of Roy Orbison while the seven minute plus "Beyond The Veil" takes on a bluesy slant which suits the singers voice. If there are criticisms to be made he could improve his lyrics somewhat and someone needs to hide his Neil Young collection with "Easy Way Out" probably a bit too close to the guitar part of "Heart of Gold" for comfort. When all the moving parts are functioning things improve, especially on the glorious "Man Like Me" a flowing country rock anthem. Overall "Cautionary Tales" is a vast improvement on his last album and does start to reinforce the obvious potential that LeBlanc demonstrated on his wonderful debut "Paupers Field"
