Billy Higgins, Dave Williams, The Cedar Walton — Up Front: Reviews
A wonderful surprise from a great bass player
What a pleasant surprise this session is. Instead of the expected Cedar Walton led piano trio we get a David Williams led bass trio!! And the bass is very much to the fore here. Of course this trio has been featured on countless sessions with Cedar at the helm but this is the very first time David Williams has assumed leadership duties. And very well he does it too. From the bowed introduction to Django to the unison line of Good Bait this is a great showcase for Mr Williams considerable talents. Of course the amazing abilities of Cedar Walton and Billy Higgins should not be overlooked here but its the bass that is being featured up front on this particular date. And a 5 star session is most certainly is!! A definite must hear for all jazz lovers.
