Collection of Nana's hits
Aptly titled Boleros, Canciones, Recuerdos (Boleros, Songs, Remembrances) these 2 CD's include long-time favorites in Latin America and the Spanish-speaking world. There are old songs like "La Paloma" (inaccurately attributed to Mexico) written by Spanish composer Iradier in the 1860's, Amapola, written by another Spaniard Lacalle in the 1920's, En Aranjuez con mi Amor, by Spaniard Rodrigo in 1939, and Malaguena by Cuban Lecuaona in 1928. Also some of the titles, like De Colores, have become associated with political or religious issues , such as the United Farm Workers Union and the Catholic Cursillo groups. Title 37 (The Children of Piraeus) is better known as the title song of Never on Sunday (1960). Nana is great singing in Spanish, French, English, her native Greek, or simply humming like in Recuerdos de La Alhambra. Great compilation, highly recommended, can't miss.
