Albert King — Live Wire / Blues Power: Reviews
Opening Bell
Albert King's career changed dramatically when he signed with Stax/Volt. He had blues "hits" on other labels, but they never scored beyond a chitlin' circuit audience. He was a true journeyman, but Stax changed that. "Born Under A Bad Sign" found a huge audience (despite the fact that Eric Clapton and Cream covered it note for note and had a hit). But it was this live album that changed his career forever. He had been booked into the Fillmore as an opening act, and he became Bill Graham's favorite. And all the Fillmore recordings are terrific, but this one was the first and the best.Progressive FM stations took to playing it in full late at night, and the success was phenomenal. The quintessential live blues album!
