Sam Cooke — Sam Cooke At The Copa: Reviews
Slick Sam
Compare this album with Cooke's "Live at the Harlem Square Club" and you won't believe you're hearing the same singer. This album is a slick supper club pastiche of standards and watered down versions of two of his hits, "You Send Me and Twistin' The Night Away" while the Harlem Square Club really shows his soul at it's best. The money was always in the upscale clubs, and that's where so many soul singers tried to play. But the bland big band arrangements and pandering to a "sophisticated" crowd did not make for their best work. This album is no exception.
