CHARLES LLOYD — Forest Flower: Reviews
Forest Flower (1966) and Soundtrack (1968)
Charles Lloyd will always be thought of first as the composer of Forest Flower, a tune he first recorded with Chico Hamilton. And in 1966 when he released his sixth Atlantic album, Forest Flower-Live at Monterey, (Sunrise and Sunset) became absolute college and jazz radio must plays. In fact, the entire album was a full play through, usually late at night. Soundtrack was released in 1969, and there is another version of Forest Flower on it (Forest Flower (69). The band on both of these albums included Jack DeJohnette, Cecil McBee, and Keith Jarrett, all of whom went on to even greater fame later on in their careers. All of Lloyd's Atlantic albums are terrific, and it's a shame that they're not available at Music Bazaar. Track them down, and then also download the five ECM albums of his quartet that are available on this site.
