The Second Collaboration
"Nudge it Up a Notch" was the first collaboration between blue-eyed soul singer extraordinaire Felix Cavalieri and Steve Cropper, and it's a real winner. This effort, released two years after the first doesn't quite live up to the promise of their first collaboration. The songs are mostly Cavalieri/Cropper compositions, and they don't play to either of the singer or guitarist's strengths. It's a clean, straightforward production that plays great, but overall it lacks the punch that their first effort together. Nice listening, but don't expect greatness when you listen to this. While the performances are good, the songs are just too generic to bring out the best in everyone involved.
