Flying High
The self penned "Fire Within" is 57 minutes of Birdy's engagingly accented vocals nested with her classically feathered piano. Some songs are enhanced with a 2013 "Wall of Sound"-a sonic boom of backup which somehow never creates turbulence. With or without the "boom", the results are heavenly!
During Birdy's flight, there are sprinkles of embellishments. A crying cello in "Words As Weapons", a snappy snare in "The Same", and ghostly vocals swirling throughout.
Fortunately Birdy never climbs too high. In fact one song flies dangerously close to the ground. "Maybe" is a cute pop delight. It would have nestled nicely within seasoned songstress Susanna Hoffs' "Someday" CD. (2012)
