Brian Eno, David Byrne — My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts: Reviews
Lies Exposed In Bush Of Ghosts
What is commonly known as "sampling" today was simply unheard of when Brian Eno and David Byrne collaborated on this 1981 ablum. So sample-heavy is this entire work, in fact, that few knew what to make of it. The sampling here, however, is not of other music but rather an incredibly varied and obscure set of clips including right-wing political commentary babble, a maniacal religious sermon of almost excorcism-like nature and other mostly spoken-word sourced material. When contstructed within African ryhtyms and synthesizers creating a sense of doom, all the tracks here seem to mostly and brilliantly succeed at liberating the listener from progandistic, commercialised and artificial mind-control realities. I get the sense that this album may have had a great impact on many other artists both at the time of it's release and throughout the 1980's and 90's.
