John Mayall, Albert King — The Lost Session (Remastered): Reviews
Lost and Somewhat Found
Produced by John Mayall, the King of British blues, this is a sloppy Albert King session that actually has a bit of charm to it. It has the sound of "no rehearsal", and almost everything is most likely a first or second take. The tapes sat in the Stax vaults for years, and after King had left the label, it was finally released. While there are some interesting tunes, the sloppy unpolished arrangements can be a bit a frustrating. The sessions were obviously thrown together, so much so that the piano player is listing as "unknown" in the credits. In an interview in later years, King, when asked about the album, said he had a keyboard player named Kevin in the band for a few months, and he thinks this might be the guy! But all told, this album takes an interesting spot in the King legacy.
