Stanley Turrentine, The Three Sounds — Blue Hour: The Complete Sessions (CD1): Reviews
Turrentine and the 3 Sounds
The Three Sounds were a popular trio in their day, and their recordings are worth seeking out. Great piano trio jazz was widely available, and their recordings were up there with the best of them. But this "after hours" sounding 2 disc set is a revelation in that it shows just how in sync they could be with a horn player. This is Stanley Turrentine as his most mellow, and the "Sounds" support him in the best possible way. Unlike anything that either Turrentine or the "Sounds" did on their own, these two volumes stand out as some of the best late night jazz that has ever been recorded. You can get any more "after hours" than this.
