Quite Good, In Retrospect
Promoted by MGM Records as part of their "Bosstown Sound" blitz in the late 60's, Orpheus was the only group (in that failed effort to create a scene like San Francisco by the record company) to have a real hit, "I Can't Find the Time to Tell You". Promoted with Ultimate Spinach and a couple of other local bands, including Earth Opera and Eden's Children, they never really found the audience they might have if they had been promoted better. These two CD's (see also volume 2) collect the bulk of the work for MGM, and there are a couple of "non-overdubbed" songs that really show the folk roots of the group. Their repertoire is well worth revisiting, and while there are no revelations here, these two discs provide an excellent overview of a group that deserved a better career than they ultimately had.
