Kiss — Gene Simmons: Reviews
Colorful and variously...
Because of the more and more growing differences between the musicians, KISS went to make a break, in which everyone of the Four would be going to create a Solo Album. The result of this was a sensational coup: Four new studio albums in one year only (And THAT meant: 10 studio albums and 2 Live Double Albums in just five years since the group’s foundation! Is there another Rock and Roll Band, who can keep up with THIS!?)! The records were released on the same day, got Platin immediately and are legendary today.
Gene Simmons‘ album is the most colourful one and the one, in which the most persons were involved. A whole lot of well-known guest musicians passed the studio doors. So were Cher, Helen Reddy, Bob Seger, Joe Perry and many others parts of the production. Also planned for guest parts were The Beatles, but unfortunately the timing didn't fit...
As variously as the cast is the music on "Gene Simmons". No thread leads the album, under the engineering hands of Sean Delaney, "The Demon" did simply all the stuff he wanted. You can hear some Rock, acoustic ballads, Gospel Choirs, some funky stuff and even a coverversion of the title track of Disney's "Pinocchio". Not really a conventional Rock Album - this is a collection of musical styles, Simmons like to play with. There’s a song on the album called „Man of 1.000 Faces“. And this is the best description of what it contains. It’s a little strange and a bit beyond the limit but it’s supercool at least!
