Getting Closer Leads To Isolation
This should be considered to first substantive Joy Division album wherein a cohesion of all tracks can be discerned. The very nature of the album's title tortuously confers a harsh opposite of its meaning. 'Isolation,' the most unsettling track, is also far and away the album's most beautiful with its mesmerising effect of placing the listener ia a cold, barren echo chamber of emotional void. It is my contention that the rest of the album is there to tease one into the illusion that 'Isloltion' is not the ultimate destination. A masterpiece.
