Genius
I was familiar with Willy Vlautin from his brilliant band 'Richmond Fontaine' and saw this on songswave after reading a review. What can I say? Brilliant. Uplifting. Heart breaking. The voice of Amy Boone (The Damnations) is a perfect marriage to Vlautins writing & playing. Jenny Conlee (The Decemberists) is on keyboard, Tucker Jackson (Minus 5) on pedal steel and 'Fontaine' percussionist and drummer, Sean Oldham. The songs take you on a journey that is a joy to go on. The pedal steel throughout the album is haunting and draws you into the words being sung. Stand outs for me are "I Won't Slip Up", "Sandman's Coming" and "Flight 31" but every song is brilliant. One of my favourite albums this year.
