A pleasant surprise
I have to admit I had never even heard of The Real McKenzies before seeing this album appear on songswaves new releases. I was curious. They sounded Scottish and I have had a long love affair with many a Scottish artist & band so I gave them a listen. And what I heard was what I instantly assumed was the result of Runrig getting together with Greenday and having a child! The result is this hybrid Canadian mesh of the Celtic and the punk. Then I discovered that they were celebrating 20 years together! Music really is an uncharted frontier when looked at on a global scale. I look forward to listening to their back catalogue because the energy they're packing out is impressive and reminiscent of the late 70's when we had an abundance of great punk bands to enjoy.
Recommended to all Celtic AND punk fans.
