Discography: Blue Notes
Harold Melvin, Blue Notes — Be For Real (The P. I. R. Recordings 1975) (CD2): Reviews
Essential Philly Soul
Just like volume one of Be For Real, volume two of the Philadelphia International Recordings Is essential for any collector of Philly soul. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes made some great records while Teddy Pendergrass was their lead singer, and the first two volumes of Be For Real (The P.I.R.) showcase more than just their hits. Pendergrass went on to make some terrific albums as a solo singer, but these Gamble/Huff produced sides show his roots with some great harmonies from the Blue Notes. Volume 3 is less necessary as it has a couple of disco mixes and some live tracks. But the first two volumes are essential to anyone who appreciates Philly soul.
