The Impressions made some great records, both with and without Curtis Mayfield. After he left the group, Mayfield continued to produce their records and guide them in the recording studio, and some of his best underrated efforts are on this disc. Composed of B-sides and obscure album tracks, ABC Rarities is a testament to the quality of the recordings of Sam Gooden, Fred Cash and Leroy Houston both with and without Curtis Mayfield singing in the group. You should start with any of the greatest hits collections, especially Definitive Impressions (Volumes 1 and 2) to hear the best of their recordings, but after those two discs, this is the volume that you want to add to your collection. Great songs such as Never Too Much Love, I Need a Love, and a very soulful version of the Beatles "A Fool On the Hill" make this a great disc.
