Sleaford Mods — Divide And Exit: Reviews
Brilliant!
Anything even approaching a comparison is lazy. Name checking groups like The Streets, The Fall etc is fine, but I personally have never heard a band like Sleaford Mods. Perhaps a tongue in cheek lyricist but mostly true. Hailing from just outside Sleaford, Jason Williamson and Andrew Fearn embody modernist culture. This isn't a throwback. This is a throw up. A throw up of everything wrong with Britain. Pushing the boundaries with visceral, sarcastic lyrics and layered beats and bass, these two men are a formidable force. They aren't in it for the money, to find a niche audience, to schmooze or garner publicity. This is working class poetry. If every person who hated their job was to listen to this album, they'd walk in on Monday morning with a resignation letter. Visceral, sarcastic, witty lyrics that will make you laugh or cry. I'm a firm believer in music that tugs by the heart strings or by the hair. This does both. This is the sound of pissed off Britain. These boys are the ones to watch. See them live before they start selling out bigger venues.
