Το σπουδαιότερο funk album όλων των εποχών
Ο James Brown μπορεί να είναι ο "Νονός" της Funk, όμως ο George Clinton σαν leader των Parliament (περισσότερο funk-oriented) και των Funkadelic (περισσότερο rock oriented) ήταν εκείνη η μορφή που στα 70's έφτασε το συγκεκριμένο είδος στο απόγειό του, συνδυάζοντάς το με ψυχεδέλεια και μουσική μυθοπλασία.
Η βάση όλης της κουλτούρας του P-Funk, και κορυφαία στιγμή της δισκογραφίας των Parliament, δεν είναι άλλη από το "Mothership Connection". Και τα 8 κομμάτια του album αποτελούν δείγμα μιας μυθικής μπάντας στην καλύτερή της στιγμή, με τα "Mothership Connection", "Give Up The Gunk" και "P-Funk" να αποτελούν funk standards μέχρι σήμερα. Εκτός του Clinton στα φωνητικά, σχεδόν όλα τα υπόλοιποι βασικά μέλη του γκρουπ είναι παρόντα (Bootsy Collins στο μπάσο και φωνητικά, Bernie Worrell στα keyboards), όπως και το απίθανο horn section των Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley (αμφότεροι πρώην horn section του James Brown), και Michael και Randy Brecker.
