Julius Eastman — Unjust Malaise (CD1): Reviews
A perfect introduction
Early composition by this long forgotten musician, the three pieces included in this album give an idea of the revolutionary approach to music adopted by the author. The most famous piece is "If You're So Smart, Why Aren't You Rich", considered by many critics the musical reply given by Eastman to the personal attack he received by John Cage after he performed in a controversial way (supported in this operation by Morton Feldman) a piece by Cage the same. In this music you have all the signs of the minimalist approach to composition typical of Eastman, associated with executions loud and maximalist. A perfect introduction.
